Biarritz is the perfect spot if you want to combine your holiday on the Atlantic shore with French language classes. The seaside resort is one of the most popular destinations in France and attracts many tourists from all over the world every year. The white beaches of the neighbouring town of Anglet are known as a paradise for surfers and swimmers.
Typical French atmosphere can be experienced in Bayonne, where the famous street festival, the Fête de Bayonne, takes place at the beginning of August. Biarritz is located in the Basque Country with its traditional and picturesque villages. Close to the Spanish border, Biarritz provides with you with countless possibilities to spend your free time

Your French language schools in Biarritz

 

Our school is located near the centre of Biarritz (10 minutes on foot) in a typically basque house with a big garden. The school has got 6 bright classrooms as well as an IT room and a media library. Tea and coffee is available and included in the service.
Our language courses are attended by students from all over the world and the maximum class size is 12. All teachers are native speakers and qualified in teaching French as a foreign language. Teaching material is provided. You’ll take a placement test upon arrival, which determines your course level. At the end of the course, you’ll receive a certificate indicating your language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference.
The school offers activities and trips which can be booked on site.

French Language courses

General French Course: 20 x 45 mins/week
This course covers grammar, listening, reading and above all communication. The course normally takes place in the morning from 9.00 a.m. to 12.15 p.m., from Monday to Friday.
The following language levels are catered for: beginner (A0, please see separate start dates), elementary (A1), lower intermediate (A2), intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2), advanced (C1), and proficiency (C2).
Minimum stay: 2 weeks

Intensive French Course: 24 x 45 mins/week
The course takes place in the morning from 9.00 a.m. to 12.15 p.m., from Monday to Friday with additional lessons in the afternoon on Tuesday and Thursday. The course is based on the General Course and recesses certain aspects of the language in the afternoon lessons.
The following language levels are catered for: beginner (A0, please see separate start dates), elementary (A1), lower intermediate (A2), intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2), advanced (C1), and proficiency (C2).
Minimum stay: 2 weeks

French & Surf Course: 20 x 45 mins/week
You follow the General Course in the morning from 9.00 a.m. to 12.15 p.m. which covers grammar, listening, reading and above all communication. Additionally, you'll have 1 hour and a half of surf lessons 5 afternoons per week, spots and schedule depend on tides and weather. Boards and wetsuits are provided.
The following language levels are catered for: beginner (A0, please see separate start dates), elementary (A1), lower intermediate (A2), intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2), advanced (C1), and proficiency (C2).
Minimum stay: 2 weeks

Summer courses for young adults (16-19 years): 20 lessons (x45 mins) per week
Our language programme for young adults is suitable for independent mature-minded students. It takes place in a separate school building, just a 20 minute-bus-ride away from the centre and the beach of Biarritz.
The French language course focus on grammar, writing and reading, listening and speaking practice. The maximum class size is 15. The following language levels are catered for: intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2), and advanced (C1).
After lessons, students have the freedom to explore Biarritz on their own. There is no supervision but our IP Counsellor is available if some problems arise. Of course, he will give you all the necessary information about your course and the city in a Welcome-Meeting and organize a Town Walk. He will also organize a visit to the Cité du surf et de la mer and offer additional trips and activities on request. All students will get a free bus pass for the time of the stay. Besides this, self-catering accommodation in multi-bedded ensuite rooms in the Youth Guesthouse in Biarritz is included in the package. Half-board accommodation (breakfast and dinner) is also available (and obligatory for all minor students). The programme is on offer from 24th June - 18th August 2012.

Accommodation

Home stay: You may stay in single rooms with one of our friendly home stay hosts, most of whom have been welcoming students for many years. Some live close to the school while others are a short walk or a bus-ride (max. 30 minutes) away. You’ll get half-board accommodation with breakfast and dinner from Monday to Friday and full-board accommodation at the weekend.

Course start dates

Arrival and departure on Sunday.

You can start your course every Monday except for public holidays. If your course starts on a public holiday you will start on the Tuesday.
Start dates for complete beginners: 02.04., 02.05., 04.06., 02.07., 06.08., 03.09., 01.10.2012

There are no classes and no refund for classes not taught on the following public holidays: 09.04., 01.05., 08.05., 14.07., 15.08., 01.11., 11.11.2012

The school is closed from 22.12.2011-08.01.2012

Minimum stay is two weeks (one week for the summer language courses for young adults).
