Our Bournemouth school for adults is located in a traditional English building in the Landsdowne area of Bournemouth, just a 5 minutes walk from the beach and main shopping centres. The school is accredited by the British Council. Qualified English teachers instruct students from all over the world in a friendly and relaxed environment. Our teachers are able to devote maximum time and attention to the progress and development of individual students. Students will be encouraged to use self-study materials in their spare time and teachers can advise on the best areas for them to concentrate and recommend appropriate materials.
The school has got several classrooms with modern equipment as well as an internet room where you have free internet access and which you can use for your self-studies. There is also a small library with teaching material, books, newspapers, and games at your disposal.
Our language courses are attended by students from all over the world (average age 25 years) and have been designed specifically for people, who wish to improve their English for their careers or help with further studies at University. The maximum class size is 15. All teachers are native speakers and qualified in teaching English as a foreign language. Teaching material is provided.
You’ll take a placement test upon arrival, which determines your course level. At the end of the course, you’ll receive a certificate indicating your language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference.
With their partner agencies the school offers guided tours of Bournemouth and the South Coast, social evenings, informal pub visits and trips to other UK Cities. You will get further information during a welcome meeting on the first day of school.

English Language courses

Bournemouth We will prepare you for IELTS and FCE exams.

General English Course: 20 lessons (x 45 mins) per week
This course covers speaking, listening, reading and writing, and our teachers are encouraged to tailor their classes to the students’ needs. You will study in the mornings or afternoons depending on student numbers, your level and your personal preference.
The following language levels are catered for: elementary (A1), lower intermediate (A2), intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2), and advanced (C1).

Business English Course: 20 lessons (x 45 mins) per week PLUS 1 hour extra per day – 20 Hours per week
This course combines the General English course (see above) with an add-on of five hours a week of Business English. You will build appropriate vocabulary related to business and management whilst developing confidence and fluency in the English language. You will study in the mornings or afternoons depending on your level, student numbers and your personal preference.
Required language levels: intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2), advanced (C1), and proficiency (C2).
If you wish to enter the Cambridge exam, there will be an exam fee of approx. 100 GBP.

IELTS Preparation Course: 20 lessons (x 45 mins) per week PLUS 1 hour extra per day – 20 Hours per week
This course combines the General English course (see above) with an add-on of five hours a week of intensive IELTS preparation tuition. IELTS is an examination recognised by all British universities to indicate an applicants’ suitability for a university course. You will study all aspects of exam strategy and will be encouraged to do guided study and homework. You will study in the mornings or afternoons depending on your level, student numbers and your personal preference.
Required language levels: intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2), and advanced (C1).
If you wish to enter the exam, there will be an exam fee of approx. 120 GBP.

Cambridge FCE exam preparation course 10 lessons (x 60 mins) per week
FCE is the most widely taken Cambridge exam to demonstrate the ability to use English effectively for general purposes in Britain and overseas. It is also good preparation for the Cambridge Advanced exam. We will provide you with the vocabulary and grammar required for effective communication and prepare you specifically for the FCE exam. This is an evening class of 2 hours per day.
Required language levels: intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2), advanced (C1), and proficiency (C2).
If you wish to enter the exam, there will be an exam fee of approx. 85 GBP.

Pre-MBA course 12 lessons (x 45 mins) per week
This course is designed to fully prepare students academically for entry to an MBA course at a UK university.
Students will learn about current theory and practice in international management including information systems, finance and accounting, marketing and human resources. All students will build appropriate vocabulary related to business and management whilst developing confidence and fluency in the English language.
This is a daytime course over 3 days a week and is predominantly aimed at students of an upper intermediate (B2) or advanced (C1) level of English.

Accommodation

Home stay: You may stay in single or twin rooms with one of our friendly home stay hosts, most of whom have been welcoming students for many years. Some live close to the school while others are a short walk or a bus-ride (max. 30 minutes) away. You’ll get half-board accommodation with breakfast and dinner. At the weekend, you will also be provided with (packed) lunch in your private home.

Residence Cranborne House: This high-rise residence offers self-contained flats of 6 single study-bedrooms. Each bedroom has a private shower, toilet and washbasin and there is a common room / kitchen in each flat. Public laundrettes with coin-operated washing and drying machines as well as public phone booths are situated in the residence. You can choose between half-board (breakfast and dinner) and self-catering accommodation. Meals are taken in the self-service refectory just a short walk away in Bournemouth House.
This accommodation is available only from 27th June - 5th September 2010.

How to get there?

To get to our English language school in Bournemouth, take the train or coach to Bournemouth or fly into Bournemouth airport (approx. 8 miles from the city centre). Airport transfers can also be provided as an additional service from/to London and Southampton airports.

Course start dates

You can start your course every Monday throughout the year except for UK Public Holidays. If your course starts on a public holiday you will start on the Tuesday. Accommodation is available from the Sunday before your course starts to the Sunday after its completion.

Public holidays 2010: 2nd April, 5th April, 3rd May, 31st May, 30th August
Christmas Closure: 20th December 2010 to the 2nd January 2011 inclusive.

There are no refunds for classes not taught on public holidays.
Minimum stay is two weeks.
