The city of Exeter is the capital of beautiful Devon and offers the ideal location for an exciting and unforgettable stay. It is close to the rugged beauty of Dartmoor National Park and the sandy beaches of South Devon, where you will find the “English Riviera” and many beautiful seaside resorts such as Teignmouth, Exmouth or Torbay. The town itself offers plenty of shops, cafés, bars and restaurants in and around the historic town centre, which is dominated by Exeter‘s magnificent 13th century cathedral. Exeter was founded by the Romans in the year 50 B.C. and parts of the old city wall can still be seen.

Your English Language Schools Exeter

Our school is located in the centre of Exeter in an elegant building with a large garden. The school has several classrooms with modern equipment as well as a cafeteria and a self-study centre, where you will be able to practise your English skills daily on your own and/or with guidance from a teacher. Several textbooks, computer programmes and material about the English language and British culture are offered for these purposes. There is also free internet access here, and refreshments in the breaks are included in the price. Besides this, you will be able to play various board games, pool, table soccer and table tennis. You can also use the garden for a game of volleyball, badminton, basketball or boules.
Our language courses are attended by students from all over the world (average age 28 years). The maximum class size is 6, allowing for very effective lessons. All teachers are native speakers and qualified in teaching English as a foreign language. Teaching material is provided.
You’ll take a placement test upon arrival, which determines your course level. At the end of the course, you’ll receive a certificate indicating your language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference.
The school offers free time activities on a regular basis, e.g. guided tours, trips, sports, theatre, cinema, pub-crawls, barbecue… Some activities are already included in the price and others can be booked on arrival at the centre for an additional fee.
English Language courses

General English Course: 20 lessons x 45 minutes per week
This course covers grammar, textual work, listening, reading and above all communication. The teachers will support you improving your grammar and vocabulary by many practical exercises. The course normally takes place in the morning from 9.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., from Monday to Friday.
The following language levels are catered for: elementary (A1), lower intermediate (A2), intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2), advanced (C1).
Intensive English Course: 28 lessons x 45 minutes per week
This course combines the General English course (see above) with an add-on of eight lessons a week (from 1.30p.m. to 3p.m., from Monday to Thursday). In these lessons you will mainly work with authentic teaching materials (newspapers, video, radio, film) to practise individual language skills.
The following language levels are catered for: elementary (A1), lower intermediate (A2), intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2), advanced (C1).
Business Englisch Programm: 28 lessons x 45 minutes per week
This course combines the General English course (see above) with an add-on of eight lessons a week (from 1.30p.m. to 3p.m., from Monday to Thursday). In these lessons you will improve your language skills according to meetings, presentations, telephoning and other business activities. At the end of this course you will feel a lot more confident taking part in the international business world.
The following language levels are catered for: intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2), advanced (C1).
Minimum age: 21.
Teachers Programme: 28 lessons x 45 minutes per week This course combines the General English course (see above) with an add-on of eight lessons a week (from 1.30p.m. to 3p.m., from Monday to Thursday). In these lessons you will learn about teaching methodology and develope your language skills, so that your tutition gets better and refreshed. You will also get a lot of lead to good teaching materials and worksheets.
The following language levels are catered for: intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2), advanced (C1).
Minimum age: 21.
Accommodation
Home stay: You may stay in single rooms with one of our friendly home stay hosts, most of whom have been welcoming students for many years. The school can be reached on foot from all of our host families (maximum 30 minutes to walk) but you can also use public transportation (about £8 for a bus ticket for one week).
You’ll get full-board accommodation with breakfast, packed lunch and dinner from Monday to Saturday and half-board accommodation with breakfast and dinner on Sunday.
Residence: You may stay in a single room in a self-catering apartment in town. The apartments as well as its toilet and shower facilities and its kitchen are normally shared between fellow students from different countries. The interior of the apartments is modern and comfortable. The apartments are located on a University campus, only a short walk from the school.
School of English in Devon - How to get there?
Take the train or coach to Exeter or fly into Exeter airport. Airport transfers can be provided as an additional service.

Course start dates
You can start your course every Monday throughout the year except for Public Holidays. If your course starts on a public holiday you will start on the Tuesday. Accommodation is available from the Sunday before your course starts to the Sunday after its completion.
There are no classes on the following public holidays:
Public holidays 2013: 1st January, 29th March, 1st April, 6th May, 27th May, 26th August
Christmas Closure: 23th December 2013 to the 3rd January 2014 inclusive.
There are no refunds for classes not taught on public holidays.
Minimum stay is one week.
