Join our summer French courses in a surfer’s paradise: Biarritz
Biarritz, Anglet and Bayonne make up the glamorous Cote Basque, ideally situated in South West France. Besides Paris and the French Riviera, Biarritz is one of the three most attractive holiday destinations in France and the area offers a wide choice of daytime holiday activities. Bayonne is a medieval town with great shopping facilities and a beautiful riverside-setting, while Biarritz is a vibrant cosmopolitan town with magnificent beaches, golf courses and numerous sporting facilities. The wonderful beaches are a surfer‘s paradise, and of course, you can also enrol for a surfing course at our experienced surf school.
You can either stay in one of our residences or with one of our carefully chosen host-families.
French summer courses take place in our local school, just a short bus-ride from the town centre and the beach.
After school, you can gather together with friends and participate in a variety of activities. Give table tennis a go or spend the afternoon on the beach relaxing or playing volleyball.
The language school in Biarritz
French summer courses for students
From 8th July onwards, lessons take place in the Lycée Hôtelier, just a 20 minute-bus-ride away from the centre and the beach of Biarritz. Until the 8th July, lessons take place in the Maison des Associations, situated between beach and residence.
Our language courses are attended by students from all over the world and have been designed specifically for young people, who are visiting a foreign country for a short period. Maximum class size is 15. All teachers are native speakers and qualified in teaching French as a foreign language. Teaching material is provided, and has been carefully compiled and selected for originality, content and relevance to young people, so your French will quickly improve.
You’ll take a placement test upon arrival, which determines your course level. The following levels are catered for: elementary (A1), lower intermediate (A2), intermediate (B1), upper intermediate (B2), advanced (C1). At the end of the course, you’ll receive a certificate indicating your language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference Levels.
Please note that the lessons don't take place on these bank holidays and won't be replaced later: 14.07., 15.08.2012.
French Language courses
General French Course: 15 lessons (x 45 mins) per week
Lessons normally take place from Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 11:45. Each of the three morning lessons focuses on a specific area of language learning: grammar and language work, reading and listening, or communicative activities and speaking practice. Our aim is to provide you with the vocabulary and grammar required for effective communication and particular attention is paid to improving speaking and listening skills.
Intensive French Course: 20 lessons (x 45 mins) per week
The Intensive Course consists of the General French Course plus an additional lesson per day (11.45 -12.30) in which key areas of language learning are practised in more depth.

Accommodation and Meal Plan
Residence: Live and socialise with your fellow students from many different countries in our residence!
You can either stay in multi-bedded rooms (3 beds) with shared toilet and shower facilities on the campus of the Lycée Hôtelier (from the 8th July onwards), or in multi-bedded en-suite rooms (3-4 beds) in the Youth Guesthouse in Biarritz (from the 24th June onwards), situated just a 5-minutes-walk from the Lycée Hôtelier (and a 5-minute-walk and 15-minute-bus-ride from the Maison des Associations).
Of course, a local bus pass is provided for the duration of your stay.
Public launderettes with coin-operated washing and drying machines as well as public phone and internet are available in the residence. A personal safe for your valuables is at your disposal in the Youth Guesthouse. In the Lycée Hôtelier you can lock your valuables in your cupboard.
You can choose between half board (French breakfast and dinner) and full board (lunch in the Lycée Hôtelier or in a nearby restaurant, packed lunch on Saturdays) accommodation.
Home stay: You may also stay in twin or triple-bedrooms with one of our friendly home stay hosts, most of whom have been welcoming students for many years. Our hosts live in Biarritz, Anglet and Bayonne - some are situated close to the school while others are a bus-ride away (max. 60 mins, a local bus pass is provided for the duration of your stay). You will get full-board accommodation with breakfast, packed lunches and dinner.
Activity Programme
We offer an exciting and supervised activity programme in the afternoons & evenings, 7 days a week. In the afternoon, there are several activities on offer: Town Walk & Town Quiz, Workshops, Beach Games, Frisbee, Beach volleyball. In the evening we always offer at least one activity: Welcome Night, Pelote Basque, Speed Dating, Quiz Night, Theme Nights, Karaoke or Biarritz by night.
Besides this, you will get two half-day excursions and one full-day excursion per fortnight. Possible trip destinations are San Sebastian, Bordeaux, Pau, St. Jean de Luz, and Bayonne.
All these activities are included in the price. Additional activities may be offered in the centre as an option at an extra cost.
Special: Surf Course
Biarritz is the surf capital of France. If you also want to get the feeling of the waves, you should join the surfing course at our partner school in Anglet.
The surfing course comprises five lessons (1.5 hours each) in the afternoon and lasts one week. Equipment will be provided. The time of the surfing lessons can vary depending on the weather, the tide and the size of the waves. Please be aware that it might not be possible to join the programme or scheduled excursion.
This special is not included in the activity programme but can be chosen at the time of booking as an upgrade.
Supervision and Welfare
Our friendly and helpful International Team with staff members from England, Germany, France, Spain or other countries will run a fully supervised activity programme and guarantee supervision.
Your safety and welfare is our top priority: there is one supervisor responsible for 15 students.
The members of our team have been carefully selected for their responsible and caring attitude and for being fun-loving and outgoing. They are the people you can turn to at any time for assistance.
Airport Transfers
Airport transfers from/to Biarritz (airport or train station) are included in the price.
Other arrival and departure transfers can be provided as an additional service from/to Bilbao, Pau and San Sebastian. On the day of arrival our Meet & Greet Service will be waiting for you and will take you directly to your course centre. On the day of departure, you will leave Biarritz as required in order to make sure you arrive at the airport or train station in time to check in. Of course, we guarantee a supervised check-in at the airport or train-station on departure. If you book an Unaccompanied-Minors-Service with your airline, please be sure to request our Unaccompanied-Minors-Service as well.
