English summer school: English courses in the traditional town of Chichester

Summer English School Chichester

Chichester is a small city in the south of England, approximately half-way between Portsmouth and Brighton and just a 2 hour drive from London. The impressive city centre stands on the foundations of an ancient Roman-British city and quite a lot of its medieval city walls are still in place. The streets have kept their cross-shaped layout, radiating outwards from the famous medieval market cross leading to the North, South, East and West shopping streets with their small shops and cafés. Your English summer school is based on the Bishop Otter Campus of the University of Chichester, just a 10-minute walk from the historic city centre. Spend your summer holidays in an international atmosphere on this very attractive campus – join the numerous activities organized by our team, or use the great sports facilities. Chichester also benefits from being close to the great beaches of Bognor Regis and West Wittering and public transport takes you there in about 15 minutes.

Campus of our English summer school in Chichester

The Campus

Our English summer school is located on an attractive university campus, in the middle of vast parks and gardens. The IP Ocean Lounge, where you will be able to meet friends from all over the world and where most of our activities take place, is situated at the heart of the campus. The IP Fruit 'n' Fit - Corner offers you all day long water, tea and fruit.
Besides this, the campus offers extensive sports fields for soccer, volleyball, basketball, handball and other games.
Public launderettes with coin-operated washing and drying machines as well as public phone booths are situated on the campus. A safe is not available in the centre, but you will get a key to lock your room.

British Council & English UK

The English summer school in Chichester

Our language school is part of the Europa School of English which is accredited by the British Council and is a member of English UK. Instruction takes place in bright and spacious classrooms on campus.
A unique pedagogic concept that was developed specifically for our junior summer courses is used during our language classes. Each of the themes used during lessons reflect local life and tie in intercultural experiences such as understanding life in other cultures and countries. Our concept is based on the idea that learning is most effective when students use as many of their senses as possible. Therefore we do not practise ex-cathedra teaching, but rather use a teaching approach based on discussion, role playing, presentations, group work, etc. Each of our teachers has been specifically trained to teach English as a foreign language (TEFL or an equivalent). More than 90% of our teachers are native speakers, and our non-native speaking teachers have acquired native speaking language level qualifications. You will be placed in small international (if possible) study groups with a maximum of 15 people, so that each of our teachers is able to give their full attention to each student. They will take care that you actively participate during lessons, since the only way to speak freely is by overcoming your language inhibitions.
In order to make speaking and learning English a little easier, we’ll have you take a placement test on the first day of class. Then you’ll be placed in the appropriate study group so that you and your peers can learn more effectively. With our program you will have language classes in the mornings and participate in the activity programme in the afternoons.
All teaching materials will be handed out at the course centre. At the end of the language course you will receive a certificate with your individual language level according to the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages” criteria.
