FAQs
What is an International Project?
International Projects (IP) brings young people from all over the world together to learn the four most important European languages: English, French, German and Spanish. The idea to set up International Projects came out of our desire to create an authentic international environment in which young people between the ages of 8 and 19 years feel comfortable and relaxed, where they can learn and have fun, and most importantly, where they can meet young people from all over the world.
What do the Teams do?
In every destination we have an international team of 3 to 9 members of staff who are interested in working with young people. The job of the IP Team is to ensure that every aspect of the IP centre management is in line with our expectations and vision, and conducive to the requirements and the needs of our students when embarking on their stay abroad. Working in an International Team is an experience which is challenging and demanding whilst also being great fun and providing the opportunity to make long-lasting friendships with your team-mates. It is important that the IP CM’s and the IP CO’s are expected to work for the whole summer, rather than just a few weeks. If you are only available for a couple of weeks, you will be employed as an IP SU. In autumn, over Easter and Whitsun, we also need some people to work as supervisors for our smaller out-of-season groups in some of our centres. We also sometimes need people in some of our centres where we work together with a partner organisation.
Who is in the team?
As our international teams in the centres reflect the nationalities of our international students, we need members of staff of the following nationalities, who are able to work the whole summer: Germans, Italians, French, British, Spanish, Eastern European members of staff.
What is in it for me?
- you will receive a certificate and an evaluation at the end of the season
- we offer you the opportunity to experience working within an international team
- we offer you a wide variety of different tasks
- we provide you with training and preparation for your specific job, as well as training in working within an international environment
- we bring you together with friendly and open-minded fellow staff
- we offer a challenging and stimulating environment
- we provide free accommodation on half-board basis in the centre
What will happen to my application?
- your details and qualifications will be taken into consideration
- if your application is of interest for us we will invite you to an interview session in one of the bigger cities close to your home town in spring 2009
- if the interview is successful we will invite you to our training seminar
- the attendance of this seminar is compulsory for a job in the summer
- there will be one training seminar for IP SU’s in Germany in May 2009 and another one for IP CO’s and CM’s in the UK (and in Germany and France) in June just before the centres open – depending on the job you will do, you have to take part in the respective training event
What is the content of the training seminar?
You will be provided with the necessary legal background for the job as well as with the basic information on IP, its products and destinations plus information on special aspects of the different jobs we offer.
Do I have to pay for the Seminar?
Yes, each participant has to pay a certain amount for the seminar to cover the costs for accommodation and food. However, you should not forget that you also get a certificate for the successful participation in this seminar.
When will I know where and when I work?
As an IP SU, approximately 3 weeks after the training seminar we will inform you about your destination and times of your employment. The CO’s and CM’s will be divided into their final working teams during the training event in June, but they will know before their working period and the country they will work in.
How will I get to my destination?
The procedure of how to organize the journey to your destination depends on the job you will be employed for.
As an IP Programme Coordinator or IP Centre Manager:
- you will make your own travel arrangements to the destination, but in any case the Bremen head office will be prepared to assist and advise you concerning your travel arrangements
- the start and end dates of your work period will be given to you with your contract
- Don’t forget: You need to take part in the training event before the season starts.
As an IP Supervisor:
- the Bremen head office will organise your journey to the destination
- in most cases the SU will be booked on the same coach or flight as our participants (see also “What happens on the journey to the destination?”)
- the head office tries to find a pick-up and drop-off point close to your hometown; nevertheless it might happen that you have to make your own way to the pick-up point, in that case there will be travel expenses that will be reimbursed at the end of your work period (see also “How to be reimbursed for my travel expenses?”).
What happens on the journey to the destination?
Working as a SU means that your work period starts as soon as you get on the coach or flight in Germany: during the journey to England, France or Spain you are already responsible for the participants (more detailed information will be given during the training seminar). It might be possible that unexpected things happen for example, the coach could get into a traffic jam and won’t be able to reach the next pick-up point on time; therefore it is necessary that we are able to keep in touch with you during the journey and that’s why we would like to ask you to take your mobile and some cash with you – you will be reimbursed for all these emergency expenses at the end of your work period (see also “How to be reimbursed for my travel expenses?”)
How to be reimbursed for my travel expenses?
The procedure of how to be reimbursed for your travel expenses again depends on the job you will be employed for.
As an IP Programme or Centre Manager:
- you will receive a travel-reimbursement form during the training event
- it is possible to hand in the travel expenses for your journey to the destination as soon as you arrive in the centre – those will be paid with your first salary (monthly)
- the travel expenses for your journey back home need to be handed in directly to the head office in Bremen: you will receive your last payment including the travel expenses as soon as we receive the reimbursement form
As an IP Supervisor:
- you will receive a travel-reimbursement form together with the other equipment about one week before your contract starts
- you will be reimbursed at the end of your work: travel expenses will be paid together with your honorarium as soon as we receive your travel-reimbursement form
- all supplementary costs during your journey to and from the destination, as well as during your work in the destination, count as travel expenses and are therefore to be included on the form
Do I get any further equipment?
During the training seminar you will receive a manual covering all necessary knowledge for the job – if you are not sure whether you have the right answers to questions or if you are not sure about how to behave in certain situations this handbook will help. As an IP Supervisor you will also receive a T-Shirt, a name tag, the travel-reimbursement form, coach lists or flight ticket. The IP CO’s and CM’s will receive their manual and T-Shirts during the training event.
How will I be accommodated?
You will be accommodated either in residence or in host family on a half-board basis.
Is it possible to work in more than one destination and for more than one work period?
In general, it is possible to get more than one job as an IP SU. This depends on your qualifications and the times you will be available for work. This is only valid for IP Supervisors.
Will this job be accepted as a work placement?
We offer work placements which are similar to our jobs.
Can I choose where to work?
At the end of the training seminar we will ask each of you where you would like to work, but these wishes can only be taken into consideration if they correspond to our needs and our booking situation.
