FAQ: Which is the right language course for me?

  • Think about how much time you want to spend on lessons during your holiday and what you want to learn at your destination
  • Nearly 40% of our students took part in a standard course – it is a good balance between a holiday and lessons
  • If you want to learn more intensively and still want to have enough time for fun activities, we can recommend the intensive course. (Around  50% of our students choose this course)
  • If you want a very intense and effective course, you should go for the mini group course
  • All courses take place in the morning so that you have enough time for your friends and the activity programme in the afternoon
  • If you don’t mind having lessons in the afternoon, you can gain a lot of knowledge on the Summer College Course, the Intensive English plus IELTS course or the super-intensive course and also improve your presentation skills

Summer College Course: 35 x 45 minutes (26.25 hours) / week

This course consists of English language classes as well as cultural experiences and trips followed by a tutorial. From Monday to Friday you will receive four lessons in the mornings in a group with a maximum of 15 participants. Your teacher will focus on areas of grammar, listening and reading comprehension, communication, and text writing. On three afternoons each week you will have five additional lessons in small groups with a maximum of 10 participants. In the first two units your teacher will offer instruction on topics such as English for Academic Purposes, English & Culture, and English & History. After the lessons your group will leave the classroom to discover Winchester together. Possibilities include a city tour, visiting Winchester Cathedral or King Arthur's Round Table and having an afternoon cream tea. In this way you will be practically and resourcefully learning about English culture and society.
At the end of the afternoon there is a tutorial. Under the supervision of your teacher you will work on a small presentation covering your group’s cultural activities. Additionally, you have the possibility to make a personal decision about your own learning and receive individual tutoring.
