Placement test procedure

Starting at the right level helps you get the most from your language course. Our placement process gives us a clear picture of your current English, French or German skills so that you can learn alongside students with a similar level and feel both supported and challenged.

Online placement test

Before you arrive, you’ll be asked to complete an online placement test to help us assess your current language level. It’s quick and easy to complete from home at a convenient time. If you haven’t completed the test before arrival, don’t worry. You’ll join a mixed-level class on your first day and complete the placement test before being allocated to the most appropriate class.

Speaking assessment

A test can only tell us part of the story. During your first day, your teacher will also assess your speaking and communication skills, giving us a better understanding of how confidently and effectively you use the language.

Finding the right class for you

We combine your placement test result with your speaking assessment to determine the most appropriate language level for you. Your teacher will continue to monitor how you are getting on and can recommend a level change if necessary.

International classes

Classes are organised according to language ability rather than age, nationality or educational background. Wherever possible, we also aim for a good mix of nationalities, giving you the opportunity to communicate with students from different countries and learn in a truly international environment.
